About this register
Two kinds of public speech
A minister speaks in many registers: in Parliament, at ceremonies, at international meetings, in interviews and through the ministry's own communications. This page collects a small number of passages by Giuseppe Valditara whose wording could be verified exactly, and separates them by the kind of text they come from.
Speeches are spoken words, delivered to an audience on an identifiable occasion — here the opening of the G7 education ministers' meeting in Trieste in June 2024 and two editions of "Tutti a scuola", the national ceremony that opens the school year, in Cagliari (2024) and Amatrice (2026). They are reported by news agencies and the education press from the event itself.
Press statements are written. Statements 08 to 10 are the headline quotations of official press releases of the Ministry of Education and Merit, issued when a reform became law. They are short by design, and they tell us how the ministry chose to summarise each law in a single sentence. Statement 11 is a comment on the PISA 2025 results, as quoted in a specialist outlet's headline.
Read together, the two kinds of text show a consistent vocabulary — talent, merit, inclusion, respect, responsibility — carried from international settings to domestic legislation. Each block below explains the occasion and the policy behind the words, and links to the relevant policy page.
